The history of Rear Admiral John Browne, who lived in Melcombe (now Weymouth) and was knighted by Queen Elizabeth I. Also with this book are two informative documents (a) a newspaper clipping pertaining to the book, from May 1984, and (b) a potted history of Sir John Brown's life, typed to enable someone to give a talk. The book contains a double-page fold out map of old Weymouth (Melcombe) from 1617, several really nice b/w prints and several pages, at the back, from the Survey of Melcombe 1617 and 1732, listing the streets of Melcombe and their inhabitants. Fascinating for anyone into local history!

Used: very good. The dust jacket has tears to the top corners and a closed tear right across the back: this has been previously mended with sellotape on the inside, but this has marked the outside of the back of the dust jacket. The book itself is in fine condition, except for an ownership sticker on the front free end paper. |
